I feel like Reese should have just celebrated her 8th or 9th birthday, not her 6th. She is a very mature newly 6 year old and a very bright little girl. Over this past year Reese has done extremely well adjusting to kindergarten. She never once cried going to school, she was ready and eager to start school. It helped that one of the only people she knew happened to be in the same class. It also helped tremendously that she happened to get an amazing teacher. It's been the best all around transition to real school we could have asked for.
What we didn't expect to learn this past year is that Reese is a tad boy crazy. After the first week of school she declared having a boyfriend and even went as far as to tell me the "hardest part about school is having a boyfriend but having parents who don't believe me". Yikes...wasn't ready for that. That "boyfriend" slowly faded, then she developed a huge crush on a 2nd or 3rd grade boy (not even sure). His name is Drew, and she coined the phrase "Drew love", like true love...get it? Yep, boy crazy. Recently she told me she now understands Drew is just her friend, but now Charlie has admitted he has a crush on her...so now it's all about Charlie. I really didn't see this coming in kindergarten. We of course have downplayed it as much as possible...trying to not buy into the idea or make it a thing that gains attention. Hopefully she grows out of this a bit. Shouldn't boys have coodies at this point?!

On a positive note, Reese is really coming out of her shell. She is doing very well in school, reading up a storm, excelling in all aspects. This past year she started gymnastics, piano lessons, Zumba, Marin treks, and even agreed to play softball even though she has insisted that she doesn't like sports. The best part is she is really enjoying softball! It's so fun to see and it's been such a fun thing for daddy and Reese. Great bonding time for the two of them.
I think her favorite part of softball is getting a treat either from the snack shack or Baskin Robins after the game!
Reese is really into kids baking/cooking shows. So for her birthday she came up with the idea to have a cake wars party. Rather than fully baking the cakes, we decided to decorate cupcakes. It seemed more appropriate for a group of mainly 5 and 6 year olds. The party was such a blast. We started with decorating aprons, then each girl decorated 4 cupcakes and each one had a theme to follow. Of course their was a lot of free for all, but some kids really took each one seriously. It was such a fun party.
